Lacrosse is a Rain-or-Shine Sport
Lacrosse is played in most weather conditions, including rain. Players should come prepared with appropriate gear, extra layers, and a change of clothes if needed. Unless otherwise communicated by coaches or league officials, all practices and games will proceed as scheduled.
The primary exceptions are severe weather or field conditions that present a safety concern, including lightning, thunderstorms, and significant snow accumulation.
Lightning Policy
This lightning policy applies to all practices, regular season games, and tournaments.
- Thunder and lightning require the immediate suspension of all practices and contests. The occurrence of thunder and/or lightning is not subject to interpretation or discussion—thunder is thunder, and lightning is lightning.
- Coaches and site administrators should identify appropriate shelter locations before the start of any practice or contest.
- When thunder is heard and/or lightning is seen:
- Play will be suspended immediately.
- All participants, coaches, officials, and spectators should seek shelter in a building normally occupied by the public.
- If a building is unavailable, individuals should seek shelter inside a fully enclosed vehicle with a solid metal roof, such as a bus, van, or car.
- Activities may resume only after 30 minutes have passed since the last thunder clap was heard or lightning strike was seen. The 30-minute waiting period restarts with each additional occurrence of thunder or lightning.
- Individuals should not stand under or near trees and should stay away from poles, antennas, towers, and underground irrigation systems during a lightning event.
Snow Policy
Lacrosse will generally be played in cold-weather conditions; however, games and practices may be delayed, postponed, relocated, or canceled if snow accumulation creates unsafe playing conditions.
- If there is measurable snow accumulation on the field that impacts player safety or field playability, the game or practice may be canceled.
- Decisions regarding cancellations due to snow, ice, or unsafe field conditions will be made by league officials, facility operators, or event administrators.
- Families should monitor team communications for updates regarding weather-related schedule changes.
Player safety is our highest priority. Thank you for helping us ensure a safe environment for all athletes, coaches, officials, and spectators.
